Item Number field as source for cross reference field

I have created 2 DA to track issues and then also failures from the QA testing of those issues. The idea is to be able to link the failure back to the issue being tested. I know this can be a manually set relation between the items. I am also trying to create a cross reference field to allow the user to select the original item number in the issue log DA. Daptiv does not allow me to select the item number field, only the title. I looked at some of the other DA i have and what fields were allowed for cross reference and it seems the only item number fields i can select is for the DA created at the project level and not the Global level. Is this a limitation of Daptiv cross reference fields? Is there another known way to link records in 2 DA?

To appear in the Field to reference list, a field must be required and be a Decimal, Percent, Currency, Text, Hyperlink, Integer, or ItemNumber type field from the referenced dynamic application.

Re: Item Number field as source for cross reference field

    John,

Thanks for the reply. The Item Number field of the Issue Log DA (basically being treated as a parent DA in my scenario) is the field I am trying to reference from the QA log (the child DA in my scenario). I can reference the title field from the Issue Log but not the item number field. You do not have a choice in making the item number field required as it is by default so it seems i should always have this field as an option. I can select other DA i created at the project level and see the Item Number field from those but created at the Global level DA do not let me select the Item Number field as the cross reference.

I agree.  The Item Number field doesn't have the characteristics to allow it to be a cross-reference field.  It may be required, but is not the right type of field.  If you relate the Title field, you are making a soft relationship to the other item and this will help in reporting.

Are you trying to relate your items between applications?  Just select the Issue Title for your cross-reference field and relate them in this fashion as the number just isn't available.

Re: Item Number field as source for cross reference field

I am still not clear on why the item number field cannot be the reference if coming from a global DA but can from a local DA. Am I missing something on the type of field it is? Is this by design and there is a reason for this limitation or is this an issue that may be addressed in a future update? Thanks for any clarification As for my scenario, I am trying to relate items between the DA. So say an issue is logged in the IssueLog DA and once corrected it will be sent to QA. If QA finds failures in testing then their failures will be added to the QA DA and linked back to the main IssueLog through the ItemNumber and Title. The Item number was the main field to link the 2 DA on so they could be sorted in similar order.

    Evan,

If the item doesn't come up in the list of available fields, it either hasn't been selected as required or isn't available for cross-reference. If the DAs aren't acting with this rule, call Support as you may have a bug on your site.

When I create a Service Request Tracker DA containing Ticket # (Item Number) field, I am not allowed to select Required for the field characteristic; but when I create another DA to cross reference the Service Requiest Tracker, I am given Ticket # as one of the fields I can cross-reference.  If you want to send a login/password with Admin access to me at jfilicetti@daptiv.com and exactly what you are trying to do, I will look at your site.
