    Deleting Resource Types

Question, I'm cleaning up a few obsolete resource types, most were removed successfully. However there are a couple which I cannot seem to delete. When I attempt to delete them the word "(Deleted)" is appended to the resource type name. If I try to delete the same one again it results in resource-type (Deleted) {Deleted)" ect... There are no members associated to these resource types.

Possibly something to do with archive records? What am I missing?

     Thanks

You're not missing anything.  I keep on forgetting to look into this and see what is giong on and just haven't done so yet.  Without asking around our office, it could be part of our indexing process that will clear this up which happens at 7am and 7pm each day PST.  Has it been like that for more than one day?

For performance reasons there are some items that won't change until after the index process runs - things like auto health, deleting a workspace type, search index and maybe this one you mention.

I will try to find out and post up.

Thanks.. I have another resource housekeeping question. Is there a way to delete Inactive External Resrouces from the list?

Sure. The easiest way is to go to the Admin Zone and edit the resource type. When you view the member list, you can quickly remove resources.

    Re: Deleting Resource Types

Admin zone by resource type works for 'Active' external resources but there is no remove option for 'Inactive' external resources.

What I'm trying to do is import a large list of new resources, some of which exist but are inactive. When I attempt to import the records they are rejected as duplicate users. Normally that would be ok except the import file contains significantly more information which is intended to replace the existing test data.

Hi Steve - I just had that happen to me. Any word on whether it clears up via the index process?

     Thanks

Resource Types can not be deleted.  I believe the reasononing behind it is for historical reporting purposes.  This is the same with any task that has actual work recorded against it as well.  To my knowledge these two things are the only things that can't be deleted in our system.

     To clarify a little further:

Any resource type that had users and time associated them will appear as such once deleted:

The appended "(Deleted)- (Deleted)" was autmatically added by the system upon deletion of the Hardware Specialist resource type.

    Re: Deleting Resource Types

So how do I get inactive or deleted resource types (which seem to be the same thing from appearing as an option in Capacity Planner and how do I keep people from requesting resource types that are in these categories?  My folks are still able to request a resource type (and do allocations for them) when they are inactive or deleted.  How do we make these inactive/deleted ones NOT show in their pick list?

    Re: Deleting Resource Types

There are no inactive resource TYPES - the post above was referring to External Resources as being inactive which is correct.

Basically if a Resource Type has time requirements against it in the system (from a request or project), it cannot be deleted.  Generally you can clear out the time requirements first and then you should be able to delete it (after removing all users from the Type as well).

p.s. I would consider it a bug that the deleted resource types still show up on the UI for Capacity/Resource planning and it should be filed with support.

    Re: Deleting Resource Types

    Steve,

I've run a report to show the requests for our deleted and inactive resource types.  When I go into a project to try and remove that request, I don't see anything under the Resource Allocations table.  Note that many of these projects have long been archived but I would like to be able to remote these items from our resource lists.

    Thanks!

To see this type of historical resource type information and make changes, you will have to go to the Project Request tab and modify the Resource Requirement for the project whether it started from a request or not.

I'll file the case.  It's frustrating that my users can see these resource types in Capacity Planner, but I can't see them in the Admin side.  Thanks.
